Hi, I’m Steve Nelson II—environment art director, creative leader, and world-builder with 25+ years in games.
My career began with a simple goal: combine a passion for gaming with a talent for visual storytelling. Since then, I’ve led teams, defined pipelines, and built scalable systems that support live service content and AAA development.
I specialize in 3D Environment Art. Specifically, modular architecture, PBR workflows and materials, and visual identity for new IPs. I’ve mentored artists, shaped studio culture, and delivered environments that balance performance, style, and player experience.
Recently, I’ve been exploring digital painting as a way to reconnect with core skills—experimenting with line, shading, lighting, and mood, free from deadlines and pipeline constraints.
